WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE EVENT?
Where it’s good to ride a bike, it’s good to live there.
The bicycle is the simplest, fastest and freest means of transport. Where many people ride bikes, the air is better, the streets are safer, and the lines on the roads and in clinics are shorter. This can be achieved if everyone, from children to the elderly, can comfortably go wherever they want to go.
At the Hungarian Cycling Club, we work for a future where children, adults and the elderly can enjoy the benefits of cycling. In I bike Budapest, for one day we are creating a city where everyone can ride a bike. We wish every day of the year was like this!
History of the parade:
Critical Mass, which started in 2004 and ended in 2013, achieved its goal of breaking out of the subculture and making cycling popular and accepted in Budapest. In 2015, we saw that, in addition to the professional work of the Cycling Club, there is still a need for a large bike parade. On the one hand, so that every year new people can see Budapest differently for one day, and on the other hand, to show the need for bicycle developments. Tens of thousands take part in the parade every year. Before the 2019 event, we gave the mayoral candidates a 12+1 point list, the contents of which the later mayor undertook and began to implement. After the cancellation of the 2020 parade due to the epidemic, following the lifting of the closures, fifteen thousand of us marched again in June 2021 with the Dutch ambassador at the head, and then again in 2022 ten thousand of us marched together for the bike city.
